‘The limits of my language mean the limits of my world.’

~Ludwig Wittgenstein

Once I had to go to take my s.o. to the hospital while traveling in Egypt. The worst part was not understanding enough Arabic to feel like I was doing the right thing and getting the care I needed. It was scary. An interpreter would have changed everything!

Interpreters play an important role in facilitating communication across languages and cultures.

3 Ways Interpreters ROCK!

1. Interpretation requires extensive training and experience!

2. Interpreters must possess a deep understanding of the cultures they work with.

3. They must also be able to think quickly and accurately, adapting to different accents, dialects, and speech patterns.

3 Types of interpretation:

#1. Simultaneous

interpreting in real-time, often in a conference or large event setting

#2. Consecutive

after the speaker has finished, often in a legal or medical setting

#3. Whispered

in a low voice, often in a small group or one-on-one setting

Each type has its own unique challenges and requirements!

No matter the type of interpretation, interpreters must be skilled communicators who can convey meaning accurately and effectively.
